Trenton: The South Trenton Bridge, better known as the "Trenton Makes" Bridge. This sign was originally installed in the 1930's when Trenton was a manufacturing center. It was replaced as part of a recent rennovation of the bridge. This is a photo of the new sign taken when it was re-inaugurated on July 14, 2005. I first saw this sign in 1968 when I was in college. By that time, manufacturing in Trenton had already been reduced to almost nothing. The only facility I was aware of was a Trojan condom factory, which made the sign pretty amusing. Since then, the condom factory has also closed. When planning for a new sign, there was some discussion of whether some other text might be more appropriate. But the final decision was to stick with the original.
